Streaming’s #1 Spot Is a Revolving Door: A Week at the Top Measures Launch, Not Demand

By David Markowitz | September 8, 2026
Two-row timeline graphic titled Streaming's number one spot changes hands almost every week. Each row shows 26 week squares for a half-year, H1 2025 on top and H1 2026 below, with each square colored by the service of that week's number-one title and the title name printed vertically beneath it. H1 2025 shows 21 different number ones with two-week reigns for Adolescence and 28 Days Later; H1 2026 shows 24 different number ones with Spider-Noir as the only two-week reign. A legend maps services to colors, and a dot marker denotes titles whose first-ever week on the chart was at number one. Source: Reelgood Weekly Streaming Top 10, US.

The released-all-at-once zone, led by the Netflix logo and showing its 25 binge-drop shows at 2.1 weeks each with none past 5, has a wall of 15 small posters including His & Hers, The Boroughs, Beef, The Four Seasons, and The Night Agent, a chip reading plus 10 more shows, and a note that Netflix's two staggered releases, Stranger Things (3 volumes) and Bridgerton (2 parts), are excluded. Netflix put 27 different shows on Reelgood’s weekly TV Top 10 in the first half of 2026, almost twice as many as any other service. Not one lasted more than 5 weeks. The Pitt, released weekly, charted for 17. The binge-versus-weekly debate is usually argued with anecdotes. Eighteen months of Top 10 data turns it…
