HBO Max and Paramount+ Share Just 6 Titles. What That Means for Skydance’s Single Service.
Paramount Skydance closed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, and the combined company, Skydance, says its streaming products will “unify into a single service over time.”
This is the first in a short series on what that combined catalog holds. It uses Reelgood’s streaming availability data, which records which titles are on which services in each market, as of October 5. It starts with the question that shapes every merger plan:
How much do the two flagship services already share?
Short answer: Almost nothing.
Key Takeaways
- HBO Max and Paramount+ share only 6 of their 5,886 distinct US titles.
- A single service built from both would carry about three times the Paramount+ catalog and about 50% more than HBO Max alone, with almost no duplicate titles to remove.
- Among Skydance’s paid services, the duplication sits elsewhere: 58% of Discovery+ titles in the US (711 of 1,220) are also on HBO Max. In the UK, the figure is 11% (100 of 901).
HBO Max and Paramount+ overlap on 6 of 5,886 US titles
The two flagship services share six titles in the US, out of 3,955 on HBO Max and 1,937 on Paramount+’s Premium tier, with each series counted once.
Three carry Paramount Pictures production credits (the 1996 Mission: Impossible, War of the Worlds and The Firm), one is a Warner Bros. film (Risky Business), and two are series: Nathan for You and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
Six titles is 0.3% of the Paramount+ catalog. That is low even next to services that share an owner: when we looked at which streamers share the most content in late 2025, 14% of Disney+ titles also appeared on Hulu, the highest overlap among major US services.

HBO Max and Paramount+ share 6 US titles while Discovery+ and HBO Max share 711. Data: Reelgood Movie & TV Metadata & Streaming Availability Database (US, Oct 5, 2026).
Low overlap means a single Skydance service would add catalogs rather than consolidate them
Almost every title on either service would carry over to a combined one, and that cuts both ways.
The upside is breadth.
A service built from HBO Max and Paramount+ would start with about 5,900 titles, three times what Paramount+ carries on its own, and almost none of them duplicated.
Our March analysis sized that combined library in hours. Adding Discovery+ takes the total to 6,395 titles, and the next post in this series looks at what that catalog holds.
The harder part is cost.
Duplicate titles are one obvious place for a merger to trim licensing costs, since one license can do the work of two. But HBO Max and Paramount+ have almost none.
If Skydance wants a leaner combined catalog, it will have to decide which titles to drop rather than simply removing duplicates.
For licensors, the market changes too.
A distributor that licensed to HBO Max and Paramount+ as separate buyers now deals with one company behind both. The company says its platforms count more than 200 million subscribers in aggregate. A renewal on one service can now be weighed against the deal on the other.
Among Skydance’s paid services, the overlap is Discovery+ and HBO Max
Most of Discovery+ is already on HBO Max.
Of 1,220 Discovery+ titles in the US, 711 (58%) also appear on HBO Max, which follows WBD’s decision to combine HBO Max and Discovery programming after its 2022 merger.
Of the 509 Discovery+ titles not on HBO Max, 15 are on Pluto TV, Skydance’s free service.
That leaves 494 titles found only on Discovery+, and 459 of them are TV shows, mostly reality and documentary series. In the US, that is what Discovery+ adds to the group on its own.
The UK starts from a different place.
HBO Max launched in the UK and Ireland on March 26, and as of October 5 only 100 of 901 Discovery+ UK titles (11%) were also on HBO Max. HBO Max and Paramount+ share one UK title, the 2022 film Fall.

58% of Discovery+ titles are also on HBO Max in the US, against 11% in the UK. Data: Reelgood Movie & TV Metadata & Streaming Availability Database (US and UK, Oct 5, 2026).
What to watch as Skydance consolidates
However Skydance builds its single service, the changes will show up in where individual titles stream. A title might be added to a second Skydance service, removed from one, or move between a paid service like HBO Max or Paramount+ and the free Pluto TV.
Reelgood dates every availability change to the day, so the October 5 snapshot is a baseline for measuring how fast integration happens in each market. Next in this series: what the combined subscription catalog holds by genre, age and popularity.
